Helping Quebecers become recovery champions

Issue

Understanding the ins and outs of our recycling bin is key.
All too often, we tend to think the bin has magical powers. Placing an item in there doesn't mean it will be recycled for sure or that it will end up at the landfill.
Conversely, too many packaging items end up at the dump, whereas they might have had a second life if they had been placed in the recycling bin.
Basically, recycling begins at the time of purchase. As consumers, we must be better equipped to choose packaging that is truly eco-responsible.

On average, what proportion of recyclable materials gets placed in the trash rather than in the recycling bin?

Almost!
No!
Solution

We want to gain awareness regarding recycling issues and be equipped to handle them better.
We must not see the recycling bin as a catch-all.
When you properly sort what you place in your bin, you're also placing some respect in there too – respect for collectors and for material recovery facilities workers. Above all, you're helping recycling move ahead in Quebec.
The ups and downs of a full bin
-
01
Improve citizens' sorting knowledge so they know for sure what goes in the bin and what doesn't.
-
02
Give citizens the tools they need to reduce their use of packaging at the source and adopt better sorting practices.
-
03
Increase materials recovery away from home, like in public areas, for example.

Cork
Nope!
Corks don't go in the bin. If it's natural cork, you can put it in your compost. If it's made of plastic, please place it in the garbage or get creative by giving it a second life.
